Dear Friend,
A few days ago rebels took Bangui, the capitol of the Central African Republic. Gunfire, looting, chaos and death have resulted. Minutes ago I received word that most of the Easter celebrations in that nation have been cancelled as Christians hunker down and pray for protection. One Christian leader in Bangui sadly lamented the loss of gathering together as a Christian community, citing how “Easter…commemorates Christ’s sufferings but also his resurrection – just as the Jewish Passover recalls the sacrifice of the lambs and the departure from Egypt of the children of Israel. May the Lord dry our tears.”
As you gather with your church community this weekend to commemorate the death, burial and resurrection of our Lord Jesus, please prayerfully remember your brothers and sisters in Christ in the Central African Republic and other hard places around the world. Specifically what also is at risk in Bangui is the current and future leadership of the church and the gospel’s advancement in all of Francophone Africa. Our partner school there is FATEB ( FACULTÉ DE THÉOLOGIE ÉVANGÉLIQUE DE BANGUI ). The President of FATEB, Dr. Nupanga Weanzana, is a part of a Langham group of global spiritual leaders that we are shepherding in a cohort that provides advanced mentoring and discipleship. And we also sponsor scholarships for three strategic leaders toward their biblical doctorates at FATEB (Williams Moloby, Jose Thontwa and William Mbuluku). Yet FATEB is far more than a theological school. The campus contains a nursery, primary school and secondary school. It is a key place for Christian education in the country and region, and has a good library. Please pray that the staff, students, children and facilities are all preserved at this time of turmoil.
The Langham Partnership rejoices in the certainty of the true Easter message. It galvanizes us and urges us forward to raise a new generation of Bible teachers — especially in the hardest of places where the Resurrected Jesus offers amazing hope amidst suffering.
Thank you for walking alongside the global church!
